How the Kitimat General Hospital Foundation collects, uses and protects your personal information.

Last updated: October 26, 2026

The Kitimat General Hospital Foundation ("KGHF", "we" or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through kghf.ca and in our work with donors, volunteers and supporters, how we use it, and the choices you have. We follow British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

What we collect

We only collect what we need. Depending on how you connect with us, this can include:

  • Donations: your name, email address, mailing address when needed for a tax receipt, and the amount, date and purpose of your gift.
  • Payment details: online card payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card number goes straight to Stripe and is never stored by KGHF.
  • Donor account: if you use the donor dashboard, your email address and donation history so you can view past gifts and download receipts.
  • E-newsletter: your name and email address, and a record of when you subscribed.
  • Contact form: your name, email address, phone number and the message you send.
  • Volunteer sign up: your contact details, when you are usually available and anything else you choose to tell us.
  • Events: the details you give us when you register for or attend an event.

How we use it

  • To process donations and issue official tax receipts for gifts of $20 or more.
  • To thank you and keep records the Canada Revenue Agency requires of registered charities.
  • To answer your questions and contact you about volunteering.
  • To send our monthly e-newsletter if you have signed up.
  • To recognize donors, but only with your permission. You can always ask to give anonymously.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers who help us run the Foundation and this website, such as Stripe for payments, our website host and our email delivery services. They may only use it to provide those services. Some of them store information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

Our e-newsletter

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter. Our email system may record whether a newsletter was opened and which links were clicked, which helps us improve what we send.

Cookies and website tools

This website uses a small number of cookies needed for it to work, such as keeping you signed in to your donor account and processing donations securely. Stripe uses its own cookies to help prevent fraud. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels, and we do not currently use website analytics. If that changes, we will update this policy.

How we protect it

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including secure (encrypted) connections, limited access for staff and volunteers who need it, and trusted service providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect what you share with us.

How long we keep it

We keep donation and tax receipt records for as long as the Canada Revenue Agency and other laws require. Other information is kept only as long as it is useful for the purpose it was collected, then securely deleted.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to how we use it, subject to legal and record keeping requirements. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
